Garage door questions

Plain answers to the things people ask us most, from broken springs to salt air.

Open · 8am–9pm

General

Do you come out the same day?

Often, yes. We're open 8am to 9pm every day, including weekends, and keep the van stocked with springs, cables, rollers and remotes so most faults are fixed on the first visit.

How much does a garage door repair cost?

It depends on the part that has failed. We diagnose the door first and give you a written price before any work starts, so there are no surprises on the invoice.

My door spring snapped. Can I still open the door?

Please don't. Without the spring the door's full weight is unbalanced and it can drop suddenly. Leave it closed, keep clear, and call us on 07 5620 3493.

Is it worth repairing an old door or should I replace it?

If the panels are sound, a repair and service is usually the better value. If the door is rusted through, badly dented or the motor is very old, we'll show you the cost of both so you can choose.

Why does my garage door rust so fast near the beach?

Salt carried on the sea breeze settles on hinges, rollers and springs and starts corrosion quickly. Rinsing the door with fresh water and a service every 6 to 12 months makes a big difference.

Can you add a motor to my manual garage door?

In most cases, yes. We check the door is balanced and in good order, then fit an opener sized to its weight, with remotes and an optional wall keypad.

Which suburbs do you service?

Currumbin, Currumbin Waters, Currumbin Valley, Elanora, Palm Beach, Tugun, Bilinga, Coolangatta, Kirra, Tallebudgera, the Burleigh area and further north and inland across the southern Gold Coast.

Do you work on roller doors and sectional doors?

Both, along with tilt doors and custom timber-look doors. We repair them, service them and install new ones.

Broken spring replacement

Can I open the door with a broken spring?

Please don't. Lifting it by hand or running the motor puts all the weight on the cables and opener, and the door can drop. Leave it closed and call us.

Why replace both springs if only one broke?

They were installed together and have done the same number of cycles. Replacing both gives balanced lift and saves a second call-out soon after.

How long does a spring replacement take?

Usually about an hour or two on site, depending on the door.

Garage door motor repairs

Is it worth repairing an old opener?

If parts are still available and the motor is sound, often yes. If the opener is very old or parts are hard to get, a new one may be better value. We'll show you both prices.

Why does my door reverse when it closes?

Usually the safety beams are dirty, blocked or misaligned. Wipe the two small lenses near the floor first. If it continues, the force setting or the door's balance needs attention.

Do you repair all brands?

We work on most openers used in homes on the Gold Coast. Tell us the make and model when you call and we'll confirm.

Remotes and keypads

My remote stopped working. Is it the battery?

Often. Try a new battery first. If the wall button opens the door but the remote doesn't, the remote may need recoding or replacing.

Can I buy a remote and code it myself?

Some remotes can be self-coded, but they must be the right type for your opener. We can supply the correct one and code it for you.

Can a keypad replace remotes?

A wireless keypad outside the door lets people in with a code, which suits families and tradespeople. Most households keep remotes for the car as well.

New garage door installation

How long does installation take?

Most residential doors are installed in a single day once the door has arrived.

Do you take the old door away?

Yes, removal and disposal of the old door is part of the job.

Can I keep my existing motor?

Sometimes. If it suits the new door and is in good order, we can reuse it. Otherwise we'll quote a new one.

Servicing and maintenance

How often should a garage door be serviced?

Every 6 to 12 months near the beach, and about once a year elsewhere on the Gold Coast.

What does a service include?

An inspection of every moving part, cleaning and lubrication, adjustments to the door and opener, and a safety test.

Should I grease the tracks?

No. Grease in the tracks collects dirt and sand. The tracks should be clean; the rollers and hinges get a light lubricant.

Coastal corrosion care

How far from the beach does salt reach?

Salt spray is heaviest within the first few hundred metres, but it travels further inland on a strong sea breeze.

Will stainless parts stop all corrosion?

No part is completely immune, but stainless and galvanised parts last much longer in salt air than plain steel.

Is rinsing really worth it?

Yes. A monthly rinse with fresh water removes salt before it can do damage, and costs nothing.
